Well, after 74 years the Kodachrome brand of Kodak Film is gone.

Have to say, it is a sad moment for me because I see the end of an era - the era where something that took time to be something important is now gone to the way side. Everything is for the instant, digital as in film, but in general, all things of rapid and speed seem to be the only thing that matters.

I look around and wonder when will the average person buy a whole chicken and cook it down to make soup, and use the parts for broasting? This is now a can of broth and a plastic container housing a rotisserie bird.

The idea of starting with something simple and making it complex is gone ... even as I try to put my thoughts into words, even I am attempting to hold onto something more complex when all I really needed to do was stop after the word GONE in the first sentence.

Re: Snap and it's gone

It is sad. No longer will we be able to shoot a roll of film and be filled with that wonderful feeling of excitement and wonder as we would take the film to the developer. As the time passed all we could do was hope that the pictures would be as good as we thougth they would be. Did I catch that moment I saw or was I too late? Was I too early? Will the lighting be right? Did the flash work? Were her eyes closed? We used to have to wait, sometimes for days to learn the answers to these and a myriad of other questions about our pictures. Now, we simply look at the back of the camera to see if the pix are worth keeping. We used to call them pictures or photographs. Now we have, in our need for speed, even shortened the name and spelling to pix.

Earlier this year, I sold my 35mm camera to a pawn shop. It was the same camera I bought in 1985 with money I had saved from a whole summer of mowing my neighbors' lawns. I had not used my 35mm camera in years and got tired of moving it around the closest to get to other things. I used the cash for half a tank of gas because that is all it was worth.
