More than a year ago, I retired from the world of Rotary International. An organization that I served with for a dozen years. I made the most amazing friends and business acquaintances at the every Monday noon meetings. Eight of those years, I had perfect attendance.
Last year I began the self review of the time I was investing in projects and determining the challenge and result I was receiving. I have been a volunteer in many organizations since I was 18. I have been blessed with amazing mentors and shadows that have helped me shape the business mindset that I have today. I determined that after 12 years of being a Rotarian along with some other groups I was servicing as an advocate, I simply did not see a spot where I could be personally challenged at the place the group was at - at that point.
I spent many months thinking and hoping something may develop that would garner challenge and excitement yet produce a passion for achieving a mission. I have found a few causes and organizations that are providing me with this adventure currently, but this is not where this posting is headed.
Rather, I am returning for a one time special visit to Rotary on Monday. I have been asked to reconsider membership, but I am not feeling the pull toward the mission currently. I have been asked on many occasions to be a visitor. Monday, I will do just this ... visit and see many familiar faces and hear the Mayor present his State of the City address. It will actually be 20 years ago, this month, that I was the master of ceremony for the state of the city address at the Grand Wayne Center to a crowd of 600+ professionals.
Here is to history in deja-vu and to seeing old friends and colleagues at Rotary on Monday.
