Perhaps I am showing my age, but when I went to school there was no choice in the matter. The school system notified us when school began, when the bus would pick me up, who my teachers would be and when to pick up books. Period.
I did not get to pick which school I went to, who my teacher would be or how I could be placed on a waiting list to transfer to another school.
I often wonder, if we have too many choices in life and by this the kids today are not satisfied when they enter the workforce. Facing few negotiable moments at work, frustration builds and the new entry into the work force quits. When you start your first job, you do not get to pick your office, your hours, your portion of the workload that does not appeal to your creativity.
Lifted from the Fort Wayne newspaper: Fort Wayne Community Schools will host its annual School Choice Fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Northrop High School, 7001 Coldwater Road.
More than 1,000 parents attend the event each year to learn more about the variety of educational choices they have for their children within the public school system, including magnet and the high school reinvent programs.
I sometimes think the problems we face in our workplace may begin with some of the offerings and actions presented during youth. Look at the leaders who have come through without all these choices. They seem to have been well adjusted by being told this is your school and this is what we all study.
Just sayin'
