Last night we went to the Redwood Inn. What an adventure!
It is always about the food there - the sausage roll is worth it all. I always think, what a gold-mind this place could be if it just invest and cleaned it up. I know, it is a tavern ... well, I know this because at nearly every booth, there is a handwritten note stating it was a tavern.
The booths are a bit split or tattered. The ceiling is missing a few tiles. The waitress, who is always worth the drive, pays little attention about the accuracy of placement of food in front of the right person. The middle of the room felt like an Arctic blast but beyond that it is filled with charm and unique traits that make it a joy to walk in. Not to mention, the sausage roll was doughy and chewy and stuffed well with sausage, cheese and fresh tomato sauce.
The plastic red and white table clothes, the bar that stretches half way through the joint, the scoreboard that yells "peanuts", and the eclectic diverse patronage (like there were at least one drag queens there last night, but I am thinking two) and the familiarity of the same working staff time after time make this a historic downtown tavern. It is comforting to expect something and always get it there ... Redwood Inn, charming, consistent, and not high on the classy spectrum

Re: Tried and True
Oh yum....haven't had one of their sausage rolls in years and NO ONE makes one like the Redwood does! Wasn't the Redwood also the place the nighbor ran too with his dying/dead little one?
